The deflex prosthesis is a removable partial prosthesis “a bridge” made of a special material. It is a kind of gum-colored acrylic with gum-colored clasps, which has semi-flexible properties in order to create the perfect comfort when chewing, eating and when rehabilitating the dental aesthetics.
Although metal clasps have very good physical properties and good resistance, they are very evident and detract a lot from the esthetics when smiling. That is why we recommend this type of prosthesis as it offers a balance between esthetics, comfort and functionality.
This type of prosthesis can replace from 1 single tooth (when it is only 1 tooth is recommended to perform acker) to many teeth. It should be considered that the more teeth to be replaced is ideal to think about the possibility of dental implants to avoid bone loss in the future and to improve the mechanics and stability of the prosthesis.
Many people think that greater flexibility improves comfort, and in that they are absolutely right. The problem is that this would damage the fit on the other teeth, causing it to move and come out constantly causing “uncomfortable” moments for the patient.
It is a dental “bridge”, to be removed and placed, with gum-colored clasps in special semi-flexible material that is used when only 1 or 2 teeth are to be replaced.
This option is indicated when a patient wishes to have a dental implant in the medium term but in the meantime wants to rehabilitate the area to avoid being” toothless “.
- This option avoids the grinding of adjacent teeth to make crowns.
- It is an affordable and esthetic option.
- It is not recommended long term because it is a small piece and can be easily lost.
- If it is not possible to perform a dental implant thinking in the medium or long term, it is suggested the use of fixed crowns. It can provide greater comfort and avoid the discomfort of placing and removing them.
The traditional partial prosthesis is the traditional we know that has metal clasps. It is available in our clinic. It is recommended because the metal makes it more resistant, of strong and flexible. It is ideal when the patient has bruxism or requires that the prosthesis with greater durability.
The esthetic plate is a temporary option in cases where an implant is going to be placed and the healing period must be waited. It fulfills the function of replacing the tooth both functionally and esthetically.
It is also used in patients who for some reason still cannot perform the partial prosthesis or dental implant. There is the option of the aesthetic plate which is the most affordable of all. It is only a temporary option, hopefully for a few months.
