Gum Bleeding Natural Relief: 7 Home Remedies [2024]

No evitar el cepillado

Experiencing excessive bleeding in your gums can be concerning and harmful to your dental health. Various factors can contribute to this issue, with dental plaque and calculus being the most common causes.

In addition to debunking myths, I want to offer various natural remedies that can help improve gum bleeding. However, it’s important to understand that rinsing your mouth won’t magically solve the problem. There’s a lot of false information circulating, which isn’t backed by science, and people tend to believe it because it promises a quick and easy solution. While these remedies can provide some relief, the most important thing is to address the underlying cause of the bleeding with the help of a dentist.

1.Eat carrot and apple

To clarify, carrots and raw apples do not contain any special component that magically stops gum bleeding or reduces bacterial plaque. However, they can be helpful in partially removing plaque when consumed raw and in their whole or thick cane forms.

Other fruits or vegetables that have a similar hard texture can also help with cleaning to a certain extent. Of course, the most effective way to remove plaque after a meal is through tooth brushing, but this tip can be useful when brushing is not immediately available.

2. Dental cream with calendula

calendula for gum bleeding

Calendula is a plant that contains natural components that have been extensively tested to control gum inflammation. It is highly recommended after deep dental cleaning or dental surgeries to help reduce inflammation. In Colombia, there is a trademark cream called Parodontax that is excellent in reducing gum bleeding. Although patients often report not liking the taste of the cream, it has been effective in reducing inflammation and gum bleeding. However, the results are best achieved after making changes in the use of toothbrush and dental floss, which we will discuss later in this blog.

A dental mouthwash known as K Trx is also accessible in Colombia, containing calendula components and is particularly useful for aiding in the recovery after dental surgery and reducing gum inflammation.

3. Use the right and correct dental silk

This is undoubtedly the most natural, uncomplicated, and budget-friendly method to put an end to dental bleeding; however, it is often disregarded. What frequently happens is that numerous patients assume that they have some sort of allergy to toothpicks or that dental floss is detrimental to their oral health, so they evade it. They claim that they do not use dental floss and do not experience any gum bleeding, but the moment they decide to floss, they notice significant bleeding, and even the following day, the inflammation continues.

This situation is paradoxical: if we don’t use dental floss, we will experience bleeding when we start using it, as the gums begin a healing process that can last about 3 to 4 days, resulting in greater bleeding and inflammation. However, if we persist in using dental floss and adopt good brushing habits, the gums will eventually heal. If bleeding persists, it may be necessary to see a dentist to check for dental calculus that may need to be removed, and I will discuss this point later.

4.Check the hormonal component

Gum bleeding in pregnant women

Tooth bleeding can occur frequently during pregnancy due to changes in the body caused by the hormones and increased blood flow. While it cannot be eliminated, it can be managed by maintaining proper dental hygiene and ensuring there are no dental calculations present. Once the pregnancy ends, the bleeding usually subsides, and everything returns to normal.

5. Change the toothbrush

Change the toothbrush

The type of toothbrush used by people may contribute to tooth bleeding. Thick bristles or very straight bristles with a hard consistency can cause the brush to miss certain areas of the mouth where bacterial plaque accumulates, leading to bleeding gums.

We recommend changing to a toothbrush with soft bristles and thinner tips, as they can reach difficult areas more easily and effectively remove bacterial plaque, which often causes bleeding. Brushes with a larger number of thinner bristles or crisscrossed bristles are also recommended as they can reach more angles while brushing.

6. Perform professional dental cleaning

In cases of dental bleeding, this aspect is crucial as natural methods alone may not be sufficient, and the condition may worsen over time, making it more difficult to eliminate and affecting more teeth with each passing day

There are at-home devices available on the internet that claim to remove dental calculus, but I strongly advise against using them as they lack the cooling feature provided by dental offices. The vibrations produced by these devices can generate heat in the tooth and cause irreversible damage to the nerve and enamel. The damage may lead to fractures and require resin restorations to remedy the situation.

7. Take radiographs to review restorations

While not precisely a home or natural remedy, X-rays are important when you have checked all previous points and still experience dental bleeding. This is because it is essential to confirm that the restorations in the mouth, whether white or black, are properly adapted to the area. In cases where they are not, it is difficult to remove food, which can lead to problems such as cavities, bad breath, and bleeding gums in the long term.
